Sean regularly represents individuals, businesses, contractors, and property owners in complex and high-conflict disputes involving family law, contractual issues, property claims, construction matters, and commercial disputes. His combined experience in both family and civil litigation allows him to effectively manage cases involving overlapping legal and financial issues, including disputes relating to business interests, real estate ownership, support obligations, debt claims, and trust-related issues.
In his family law practice, Sean advises and represents clients in matters involving parenting disputes, decision-making responsibility, parenting time, child and spousal support, equalization of property, financial disclosure disputes, mobility applications, and urgent motions. He has also handled complex matters involving freezing orders, partition and sale proceedings, and claims relating to constructive trust and unjust enrichment.
In his civil litigation practice, Sean acts in a wide range of disputes involving breach of contract claims, construction disputes, debt collection and enforcement proceedings, real estate litigation, shareholder and commercial disputes, and urgent injunctive relief. He regularly assists clients through all stages of litigation, from early strategic assessment through to motions, trials, and enforcement proceedings.
Sean also advises clients in alternative dispute resolution processes, including mediation and arbitration, while remaining fully prepared to advance matters through the courts where necessary. His approach is grounded in detailed preparation, practical advice, and strong advocacy focused on achieving efficient and commercially sensible outcomes.
An experienced litigator, Sean routinely appears before the Ontario Court of Justice and Superior Court of Justice for conferences, contested motions, applications, trials, and other proceedings. He is recognized for providing clear, direct, and realistic advice while maintaining a strategic and disciplined approach to litigation.
Sean has been involved in numerous reported decisions involving a range of family and civil litigation issues, including relocation disputes, partition and sale applications, property-related claims, and enforcement matters. His litigation experience allows him to navigate legally and financially complex disputes with a focus on protecting his clients’ long-term interests.
Before founding Lakhan Tram LLP, Sean led a team of family lawyers at one of Mississauga’s largest full-service law firms. Prior to that, he practiced at a prominent litigation boutique in North York following his articles and call to the Ontario Bar.
Before entering the legal profession, Sean spent over a decade working as a risk management consultant for a large international corporation. This background provides him with a unique understanding of risk assessment, strategic decision-making, and the intersection between business and litigation.
Sean holds a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and History from the University of Toronto, a Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.) from the University of London, and Master of Laws (LL.M.) degrees in Common Law and International Business from Osgoode Hall Law School.
